Initiated by UNHCR and licensed by the Uganda Communications Commission, the station serves both refugee and host communities across Yumbe, Adjumani, Koboko, Moyo, Obongi, and parts of South Sudan.
The station plays a critical role in strengthening communication, community engagement, and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) by providing relevant, timely, and culturally appropriate information. Its programming supports community-based protection while also offering entertainment and educational content.
Broadcasting in multiple languages—including English, Arabic, Aringa, Madi, and Kakwa—Bidibidi FM reaches diverse audiences with tailored content for children, youth, women, and men. The station is supervised by STF with support from international partners, reinforcing its role as a trusted platform for information and dialogue.
Karamoja Hotspot Programme – Freedom Fund
With support from the Freedom Fund, STF is implementing the “Empowering Communities and Strengthening Child Protection” project in Napak District. The initiative addresses key drivers of child exploitation, including early marriage, child labour, school dropout, and limited access to SRHR information.
The project uses community-driven approaches such as parent dialogues, participatory theatre, and youth engagement to challenge harmful norms and promote positive parenting practices. Holiday camps provide safe spaces for adolescents—particularly bursary beneficiaries—to access life skills, SRHR information, and linkages to youth-friendly health services.
Through a combination of direct engagement and mass media outreach, the project reaches thousands of community members, including over 800 parents, 200 adolescents, and an estimated 1 million people through radio messaging, strengthening community-level child protection systems.
