Supported by UNICEF, this project was implemented in 17 districts: Kasese, Tororo, Nabilatuk, Abim, Amudat, Kaabong/Karenga, Kotido, Moroto, Napak, Nakapiripirit, Kamuli, Arua, Adjumani, Moyo, Obongi, Nebbi, and Yumbe. The program focused on empowering adolescent girls to realize their full potential by working with district and local governments to support program planning, implementation, review, and monitoring.
Activities included promoting the integration of life skills and citizenship education into school plans in the target districts, building adolescents’ skills for learning, personal empowerment, active citizenship, and employability through UNICEF-supported programs, and providing access for out-of-school children to early learning, primary, or secondary education. The project also enhanced the capacity of schools to implement quality prevention and response mechanisms to address gender-based violence both in and out of schools. The project aimed to ensure that by 2025, national capacity had been strengthened to plan, implement, monitor, and coordinate evidence-based communication strategies to advance child rights through positive behavior and social change.
