Better Life For Girls
In July 2016, Straight Talk Foundation received a grant from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to implement “Better Life for Girls in Uganda”, a multi-sectoral initiative that sought to strengthen efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy and underage marriage so as to reap the girl effect dividend. The program worked towards strengthening national capacity to deliver improved sexual and reproductive health outcomes and socio-economic empowerment for adolescent girls in 14 districts in Uganda including Amuria, Bududa, Butaleja, Iganga, Kapchorwa, Katakwi, and Mayuge in Eastern Uganda and the Karamoja region (Abim, Amudat, Kaabong, Kotido, Moroto, Nakapiripirit, and Napak districts).
The program utilized a holistic and gender-focused approach to empower girls and built on previous country efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy.
