The Adolescent Youth Empowerment And Development Initiative
With funding from the US Department Of Labour(USDOL) and technical support from the World Education Inc(WEI) Bantwana Initiative, Straight Talk Foundation has since January 2014 implemented “The Adolescent Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative (AYEDI).” This project aimed at reducing adolescent youth engagement in hazardous work. AYEDI utilizes an integrated approach for youth skills building that is designed to have adolescent youth organized in AYEDI clubs of between 30-35 members in all the project target villages. STF supports the component on adolescent youth empowerment clubs.
During 2016, STF implemented the following interventions: Trained Lot 3 AYEDI youth in club leadership and peer education to support the club patron/matron to mobilize fellow youth for club activities: trained 96 club leaders from 32clubs: conducted 3 day refresher trainings of 32 club matrons and patrons in the Northern and Eastern regions of Uganda and trained 40 teachers and 20 peer counselors on income generating activities(IGA), sexual reproductive health(SRH) and club management.
