Embassy Of Ireland Karamoja Bursary Program
The Embassy of Ireland Bursary Scheme Programme is implemented by Straight Talk Foundation (STF) With financial support from the Embassy of Ireland.
This is an opportunity for the economically marginalized, yet bright and talented young people from Karamoja Sub-Region. This programme is a unique initiative that provides holistic support to the beneficiaries to enable them to grow personally and professionally while pursuing their academic journeys.
The Bursary package includes:
- Financial support (full school fees, basic school requirements, scholastic materials, pocket money, transport refund, and medical health insurance);
- Mentorship to address life challenges through teachers and STF staff.
- Opportunity of joining the Embassy of Ireland /STF Scholars Alumni
The programme also integrates a collaboration with the parents/guardians of the beneficiaries to realize their role towards the education of their children. Parents/guardians meetings are organized by STF and held to create more awareness about the importance of their involvement in the education of their children.
Beneficiaries are identified through a selection process in each of the 9 districts in Karamoja sub-region by a Scholarship Selection Committee. The scholars are supported right from the post-primary level (senior one) to the higher institutions of learning (Universities and other tertiary institutions).
To date over 363 (M-128, F-235) scholars have completed studies in different disciplines and these become alumni of the Bursary Programme. 1241 (M657, F590) scholars are currently continuing studies at post-secondary and 63 (M-28, F-35) at university/tertiary institutions of learning.
